Hamburg-based writer Munir, driven by melancholy and alienation, undertakes a one-way trip to Germany’s Hallig Islands. A cold welcome from innkeeper Valeska soon develops into a comforting connection, sustained through few words. As a storm begins to batter the island, Munir appears to find firmer ground. The film’s elemental rhythm, sound and texture are finely attuned to Munir’s inner world, allowing for a profound reflection on memory and the diasporic condition.
